Job summary:
The Maintenance Mechanic performs all type of mechanical jobs throughout the plant or quarry, during the regularly scheduled maintenance shift and on an emergency as needed basis. Jobs include, but are not limited to, working on equipment, machinery and structures needed for the normal operation of the plant or quarry. The Mechanic interfaces, on a daily basis, with the rest of the operations in this location. 

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform Mechanical jobs using all necessary tools
  • Evaluates and coordinates Mechanical needs and repairs
  • Identify and select necessary parts and equipment
  • Make and uses sketches and drawings
  • Perform maintenance modifications
  • Assist and performs emergency repairs throughout the plant and quarry
  • Use bars, calipers, gauges, precision instruments, hand tools and wrenches
  • Performs necessary repairs to Mechanical equipment 
  • Inspects equipment reported malfunctions carries out required repairs as needed
  • Assist maintenance personnel during repairs 
  • Maintain necessary maintenance records
  • Prevent damage to machinery, equipment, tools and material
  • Operating hoist or crane during repairs
  • Maintain a good housekeeping in the plant and work areas-using shovel and broom
  • Replace or assist other workers as needed or directed
  • Perform welding jobs and repairs as needed
  • Adhere to all CEMEX, OSHA and MSHA rules and regulations at all times and wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds
  • Meet or exceed company safety standards
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management


  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Prior Mechanical experience/welding experience, training or certification required
  • Prior plant maintenance mechanic experience a plus

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to carry out not only simple, but complex oral and written instructions and deal with problems from standardized situations and work experience
  • Good mathematical skills, including basic math, fractions and conversions of four-five digit numbers and common units of measurement in both metric and decimal system
  • Ability to read and understand English sufficiently to be able to read technical information contained in manuals, reports, and Mechanical work related instruction, including safety issues and matters
  • Ability to communicate well with supervisors, welders, leadmen, other Mechanics, maintenance personnel, co-workers and outside contractors
  • Electrical and mechanical knowledge to detect potential safety hazards and breakdown of plant and quarry machinery and equipment and respond accordingly
  • Ability to identify and select the appropriate material and equipment necessary to perform the correct mechanical work and repair
  • High level of attentiveness and physical coordination to perform the work activities safely and productively

Working conditions:

  • Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise, and working outdoors
  • Must wear protective equipment while at the location  

Physical requirements:

  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree
  • Heavy Work-Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds or force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors as well as function safely around heavy rolling equipment   
  • Must be able to perform all job functions which include, but may not be limited to, pushing, turning, and/or pulling of controls
